Makro and Game reveal Black Friday 2024 plans

Massmart has announced that Game, Makro and Builders will once again offer month-long Black Friday promotions this year.

This is after positive feedback from consumers last year, the company said.

“Game, Makro, Builders, and Jumbo Cash & Carry are responding to clear customer demand for more authentic deals and extended shopping opportunities,” said Massmart vice president of group marketing Andrew Stein.

“In a year fraught with financial pressure, our Black Friday promotions will offer customers the opportunity to access deep discounts on a wide range of products that are relevant to their specific needs.”

Stein said customers are clear about their expectations for authentic value.

Massmart said its research shows that 75% of Game customers plan to spend more this Black Friday than last year.

These customers are deal-savvy and plan their purchases in advance, it found.

In response, Game plans to offer exceptional value on essential groceries and selected homeware and electronics items.

Customers can look forward to savings such as over 40% off on entry-level laptops, up to R2,000 off entry-level smartphones, up to 60% off selected sporting items, and up to 50% off cookware and luggage.

Makro customers are likely to invest in bulk-pack purchases in preparation for the year-end holiday and the back-to-school season, Massmart said.

In anticipation of this volume-based activity, Makro’s buyers have focused on negotiating the best value on deals on bulk and single packs with suppliers.

Customers can expect deals on 24-pack toilet rolls and 6-packs of long-life milk.

Categories such as liquor, electronics, and health and fitness equipment are expected to be a focus point.

Customers can also look forward to significant savings on home gym equipment and up to 40% on the latest QLED TVs.

Builders’ Black Friday discounts will include savings of 20% to 70% on items such as water tanks, LED lights, ladders, security gates, and air conditioning units.

“For many South African homeowners, the year-end period provides the opportunity for basic home maintenance and garden DIY,” said Massmart.

“These customers typically search for deals that will help get these tasks done efficiently and cost-effectively.”

Stein said that their Cash & Carry stores, such as Jumbo, appeal to traders who own their own independent retail outlets and spaza shops.

These traders leverage Black Friday discounts to stock up on commodities for their busy Black Friday and Festive trading period.

“We typically work closely with our traders to understand their merchandise priorities before our buyers negotiate deals with suppliers — ensuring unmatched value and relevance,” said Stein.

“This year, Cash & Carry customers will benefit from discounts on products such as snacks, sweets, toiletries, basic groceries, and liquor.”

All Game, Makro, and Builders deals will be available online and in-store while stocks last. Jumbo Cash & Carry deals will be available in-store.

Weekly deals from Massmart trading brands will be available on the following dates:
